RETURN Africa is proud to announce the opening of its renowned Pafuri Walking Safaris, running from April through October 2026. Guests are once again invited to explore the pristine wilderness of the northern Kruger National Park on foot, guided by professional walking guides deeply connected to the land and its heritage.

A Season Shaped by Water

This year’s walking safaris will be unlike any other. Following exceptional rainfall and multiple floods across the Luvuvhu River system, the landscape has been transformed. Seasonal pans brim with water, riverine forests are lush, and wildlife movements reflect the abundance of grazing and browsing opportunities. Guests can expect to encounter a greener, more vibrant Pafuri, with trails that reveal the dynamic interplay between floodwaters and wilderness renewal.

Camps and Experience

  • Hutwini Walking Camp – Luxurious yet intimate, with four spacious tents and a central mess tent, ideal for exclusive walking experiences.
  • Nkula Walking Camp – Simple, wild comfort for adventurers seeking immersion in remote landscapes.

Both camps remain solar-powered and WiFi-free, ensuring guests disconnect from modern distractions and reconnect with nature. Walks are led by two qualified guides, with a maximum of eight guests per walk, maintaining intimacy and safety.

Voices from the Field

Cyril Baloyi, Head Guide at RETURN Africa, reflects on the season’s transformation:
“The floods have changed the walking safari completely, but this was the rebirth of new and exciting landscapes. The rains brought new life, plants, flowers, butterflies. The floodplains are wet, shaping the way we walk into something much more exciting, mainly across the sandveld and sandstone ridges. Guests should look forward to exploring new areas, identifying rare bird species like Corn Crakes, witnessing the abundance of Booted Eagles, and encountering large buffalo and elephant herds. It’s a different atmosphere, with new smells and the freshness of reborn landscapes.”

Leadership Perspective

PJ Massyn, CEO and founder of RETURN Africa, reflects: “Every walking season in Pafuri is a journey of discovery, but 2026 is especially remarkable. The floods have reshaped the terrain, reminding us of nature’s power and resilience. Guests will not only walk through wilderness, but they will also witness renewal in action.”
