Kruger National Park, Pafuri Tented Camp

A short 3.5-hour drive with possibilities galore, including a stop at the world renowned Mapungubwe site lands you at your final leg of the trip concluding in the Pafuri region, home to the Makuleke community, this successful land reclamation promises to capture your heart. Your safari schedule is flexible with an array of options. Early morning and afternoon game drives, spa treatments and if you’re up for it a walking safari or simply getting away from the worlds intricacies that might land you poolside with a cold beverage and a book.
Nestled in this remote and pristine region, our camps provide an authentic African experience like no other. Prepare to step into the heart of nature as you traverse diverse landscapes, from baobab-dotted plains to mysterious Fever Tree forests, experience first-hand the historical, crooks’ corner, where the Limpopo river acts as a border, patrolled by the local hippo and crocodile populations and if you’re lucky watch a breeding herd of elephants play below you at Lanner Gorge. Farewell, South Africa as your incredible journey comes to an end, bid farewell to the captivating landscapes and warm hospitality of Southern Africa. You will be transferred back to the nearest airport for your departure, carrying with you, unforgettable memories of your South African safari.

Transport Information

Upon arrival in Johannesburg, South Africa, guests will have the option of taking one of 2 options: The first being a more adventurous slow-paced approach being a self-drive option, exploring Southern Africa at your own pace. A suitable vehicle will be provided for your journey. The second option is a fly-fly-drive option, optimizing one’s time. The second option is recommended to those guests with a limited time.

Johannesburg - Marataba:

SELF DRIVE = A scenic 4-hour drive to the Waterberg (The driving time from Johannesburg to Marataba Game Reserve is about 3.5 to 4 hours. In an effort to prevent poachers from gaining access to Marakele National Park, the Greater Marakele Security Hub, with co-operation from the Limpopo Roads Agency, has installed seven access control points to the park. To gain entry, drivers must present a valid driver’s license and vehicles must display a valid South African vehicle licence disk.)

LUXURY ROAD TRANSFER = From O.R. Tambo International Airport: Luxury road transfers to Marataba South Africa can be quoted for, booked, and arranged by MORE Reservations. Guests will be met at the airport and transferred in an air-conditioned vehicle. The drive to the lodges from O.R. Tambo is approximately 326km (203mi) and takes about 3.5 hours.

Scheduled Safari Charter:

AIR TRANSFER TO MARATABA = Guests can fly directly into Marakele National Park, landing at the Matla Mamba Airstrip. The airstrip is a 25-minute drive from Marataba Safari Lodge and an hour’s drive from Marataba Mountain Lodge. Both lodges offer complimentary transfers in open safari vehicles.

MARATABA AIR = MORE has partnered with Absolute Aviation to offer daily flights connecting Lanseria International Airport (Johannesburg, Gauteng), Marataba Luxury Lodges. Flights can be booked through our reservations team.

UNIQUE AIR = Unique Air operates a Safari Link scheduled air-transfer service connecting lodges in Marataba Game Reserve, Sabi Sand Game Reserve and Welgevonden Game Reserve.
